The luggage champion for the grand tour

With the world premiere Scorpion fx 26, HP Velotechnik presents its new trekking trike for long distances at the Eurobike trade fair / More luggage, more suspension travel, more ground clearance and a higher seat

Frankfurt am Main. With the Scorpion fx 26, HP Velotechnik has raised the benchmark for touring bikes. The sturdy vehicle is not only ready to carry huge amounts of luggage. As a handcrafted recumbent trike, it offers unique seating comfort, especially over long distances. It is ergonomically perfectly adjustable. The manufacturer’s modular component system opens up a wide range of customization options. This freedom of choice is particularly useful for touring cyclists looking for highly functional equipment. For example, they can choose from seven gears for the Scorpion fx 26, or they can select their favorite from 11 combinations of four electric motors with different gearings. You can find out all the details at the HP Velotechnik booth at Eurobike: Hall 8 (B50) and on the outdoor area stand F10.

The key figures of the Scorpion fx 26 speak for themselves. With a payload of 150 kilos, the trike is in the range of some cargo bikes. The payload alone is up to 63 kilos (139 lbs), and the luggage can be distributed over nine attachment points. That is more than many upright touring bikes. The Scorpion fx 26 also makes a statement in terms of suspension and ground clearance. 100 mm (3.93″) of suspension travel in combination with the striking 26-inch rear wheel provide outstanding seating and riding comfort even on rough roads.

The large rear wheel easily brushes away roots and potholes and, together with the long wheelbase, ensures an extremely smooth ride on the Scorpion. The Managing Director of Manufaktur Paul Hollants adds: “But if the road gets really bumpy, the ground clearance of 160 mm makes all the difference. No recumbent trike from HP Velotechnik has ever had so much clearance!“ The frame design harmoniously combines this with a mid-height seat position of 38 cm (15″) in the mesh seat. Panorama-loving bike touring fans can even go as high as 49 cm (19.3″) with the option High seat.

There is an extra plus for globetrotters or those who often want to take their trike with them on the train or in the car. The Scorpion fx 26 is foldable. In just one minute, the frame can be reduced from 221 cm (7’3″) length and 83 cm (33″) width to a compact 111 x 83 x 66 cm (3.6′ x 2.7′ x 2.2′).

The Scorpion fx 26 is available in the standard colors Cool Grey metallic and Pearl orange as well as in approx. 400 special colors at an extra charge. It will be available from specialist dealers from € 4,790 from September. Prices for the versions with motor start at € 6,280.

Kriftel. The Scorpion fx 26 is the “big brother” of the Scorpion fx 20 comfort touring trike which has proven itself on the field. Like the latter, it is foldable and was specially developed to meet the needs of touring cyclists. Both bikes in the fx series have a significantly higher and more upright seating position compared to the sportier Scorpion and Scorpion fs series. This offers more panoramic visibility in traffic and makes it easier to sit down. The two comfortable mesh seats ErgoMesh and the multi-adjustable ErgoMesh Premium developed by HP Velotechnik are available as well as the BodyLink shell seat.

The raised position provides more storage space behind the seat. This means that an optional lowrider element can be attached to the luggage rack. This accommodates a second pair of large panniers so that 50 kilos of luggage can be hung on the bike with a low center of gravity. The load can also be distributed differently with the help of the optional topload attachment, a platform luggage carrier. The luggage equipment is completed by the Side Bag Mount option, which allows two handlebar bags to be stowed to the right and left of the seat, and the Add-on Bags, which are attached to the backrest of the seat.

HP Velotechnik offers a combination of 3-speed hub and 8-speed derailleur as a basic gearing system. For a finer gradation, the two 30-speed gears are available, either as a pure derailleur or as a combination of 10-speed chain and 3-speed hub. Fans of enclosed systems can choose from three options: Shimano Nexus Premium (8-speed), Rohloff Speedhub (14-speed) or the Pinion C1.12 bottom bracket internally geared transmission (12-speed).
