Bafang M410 HD
E-Bike Motor With Smart Pedaling for Riders With Reduced Leg Strength
Specifically for HP Velotechnik, the powerful Bafang M410 HD motor is equipped with software that combines two worlds. Our engineers have named this technology Smart Pedaling.
(Please note: This feature is not available in the US. Here we offer the motor as a legal Class 2 e-bike system with a throttle up to 20 mph which requires no pedaling at all.)
“Smart” describes the way the system responds to pedaling, since e-bike motors usually rely on either torque sensing or cadence sensing. Our Bafang system can do both!
In normal torque sensing mode, the system works as you would expect from most e-bikes. You pedal, and the motor adds power accordingly – the more force you apply, the more assistance you receive. This creates a very natural riding experience.
Torque Sensing or Cadence Control?
Simply Switch the Mode While Riding
Originally, this high-performance drive system, with its maximum torque of 90 Nm and torque-based control, was developed for mountain biking and heavily loaded trekking bikes.
However, with this performance profile it is also ideally suited for tricycles. In a sense, extra enjoyment is built in – whether you are cruising comfortably through the city or tackling alpine passes with heavy loads.
For riders with very limited leg strength or physical impairments, however, the pure torque sensing is less suitable. This is where – as the name suggests – Smart Pedaling comes into play. It allows you to switch to cadence control while riding.
Throttle
Two Functions Operated by Thumb
All you need to do is operate the thumb throttle. Even if you are only pedaling lightly, the system will provide the constant extra power that you chose as assistance level.
In this mode, it is inherent that significantly more battery energy is consumed with minimal pedaling than in torque-sensing mode. Thanks to the large 720 Wh battery, however, you can still ride in complete comfort. Its generous capacity provides ample reserves for long day rides, hilly terrain, and frequent use of higher assistance levels. Depending on riding style, route profile, weather conditions, and load, the battery can support impressive touring distances, giving you the confidence to explore beyond your usual routes and enjoy every journey on your trike with less concern about range.
The throttle has a second function. It allows the motor to push your Scorpion, Gekko or Delta tx forward from a standstill without any pedaling. This boost automatically stops once 6 km/h (4 mph) is reached. The thumb throttle is positioned optimally within easy reach of your thumb, close to the handlebar grip.
The Bafang motor also enables an additional gearing option. The M410 HD is the only one of our motors that can be combined with the electrically shifted version E14 of the Rohloff 14-speed hub gear.

For even greater comfort, the Enviolo Trekking Automatiq offers a fully automatic hub gear system.
