Delta tx Raises the Bar for Comfort and Accessibility

At Eurobike show, HP Velotechnik unveils the extensively revised Delta tx, equipped with an innovative Universal joint steering, a Bafang drive system with Smart Pedaling technology, and new comfort features

Frankfurt. With a comprehensive package of new features for its Delta tx comfort trike, HP Velotechnik is setting new standards in ergonomics and ease of use. Taking center stage at Eurobike trade show are a new Above Seat Steering with universal joint, an e-drive system with Smart Pedaling functionality, a seat option designed specifically for smaller riders, and expanded cargo-carrying solutions. The e-trike will celebrate its world premiere at Eurobike, taking place in Frankfurt, Germany from June 24 – 27.

With these four innovations, HP Velotechnik further enhances the everyday usability of the Delta tx. The improvements are aimed particularly at seniors and people with limited mobility. One of the most striking new features is a new Above Seat Steering (ASS) system based on a universal joint. It enables precise cornering with minimal arm movement while allowing the handlebar to fold away easily for comfortable entry and exit. Length, height, and steering angle can also be adjusted with ease.

Meeting the Needs of Tricycle Riders

Also new to the range is the Bafang M410 HD mid-drive motor, delivering 90 Nm of torque. Equipped with Smart Pedaling software developed by Bafang in cooperation with HP Velotechnik, the system makes cycling accessible even for riders with very limited leg strength. A thumb lever allows users to switch easily from torque-based to cadence-based control, for the USA it turns into a Class 2 e-bike. “With the Smart Pedaling function, developed jointly with Bafang, we are continuing an approach that HP Velotechnik has successfully implemented in the past with other motor manufacturers,” says Managing Director Paul Hollants. “We deliberately refine existing drive systems to better meet the needs of our tricycle riders.”

Additional comfort comes from the new ErgoMesh Premium XL Short seat option. Designed especially for smaller riders, it provides an even better fit and improved seating comfort. Cargo-carrying options have also been expanded. In addition to a Front rack, a lockable Luggage box for the rear carrier is now available.

The Delta tx equipped with the Above Seat Steering and the Bafang motor will be available through authorized dealers from August 2026 at a retail price of € 7,638 ($ 9,709).

Frankfurt. With a comprehensive package of new features for the Delta tx, recumbent manufacturer HP Velotechnik is setting new standards in ergonomics, ease of use, and everyday practicality for its comfort recumbent trike. At Eurobike, the focus is on a newly developed Above Seat Steering system based on a universal joint, a Bafang M410 HD mid-drive motor with Smart Pedaling functionality, a new seat option for smaller riders, and expanded cargo-carrying solutions. The new products will be presented for the first time at Eurobike, taking place from June 24th – 27th in Frankfurt am Main, at the HP Velotechnik booth in Hall 12 (A29). Extensive test rides will be available at booth B13 in the outdoor area (F12).

The new developments are aimed in particular at seniors and people with reduced mobility. The new Above Seat Steering with universal joint enables tight cornering with significantly smaller arm movements compared to a traditional Above Seat Steering, which swings sideways when steering. The universal joint design also allows the handlebar to be folded forward easily, making mounting and dismounting more comfortable. A locking lever lets riders choose whether the handlebar remains fixed or freely adjustable while riding. The innovative design also allows precise adjustment of height and tilt to individual preferences.

 

New motor control system

HP Velotechnik is also setting new standards in drive technology. The new Bafang M410 HD mid-drive motor delivers 90 Nm of torque. Equipped with Smart Pedaling software developed by Bafang specifically for HP Velotechnik, the system provides a new form of assistance for riders with very limited leg strength. By pressing an ergonomically positioned thumb lever, the software delivers continuous assistance. Depending on the input level, support can reach the legally permitted maximum speed even with minimal pedaling effort. This is made possible by switching from torque-based to cadence-based motor control. For US riders, the throttle can power the trike without any pedaling up to 20 mph (Class 2 e-bike).

“Together with Bafang, we have developed the Smart Pedaling function to continue an approach we have successfully implemented with other motor manufacturers,” says Managing Director Paul Hollants. “We continuously refine existing drive systems to better meet the needs of our trike users. Smart Pedaling makes cycling more inclusive and significantly expands mobility options.” Hollants was delighted that the new Bafang motor is also being introduced across the Scorpion and Gekko ranges, HP Velotechnik’s other recumbent trike product lines. “In particular, people with reduced leg strength or those whose strength decreases on longer rides can rely on Smart Pedaling to remain comfortably mobile throughout their journey.” The motor can also be combined with the electronic Rohloff E14 hub gear system.

Seat comfort for smaller riders

Additional comfort for smaller riders is provided by an expanded seat range. The ergonomically adjustable ErgoMesh Premium mesh seat will now also be available in the ErgoMesh Premium XL Short version. This new configuration combines a spacious seating area with a slimmer and shorter backrest. Users of the Hands-On-Cycle handbike system also benefit from the new seat, as the slimmer backrest provides greater arm freedom for pedaling and steering.

Expanded cargo options

Cargo capacity has also been significantly extended. The rear carrier box, first presented at the Spezi trade fair in April, offers secure storage for valuables. It is water-protected, internally padded, and lockable. A new front rack has also been introduced. The rack platform, approximately tabloid sized, comes with a basket included. It enables the transport of luggage and – when equipped with the appropriate pet basket – even small pets, while keeping them in the rider’s field of view at all times. The Delta tx’s total payload capacity increases to almost cargo bike levels at 60 kg (132 lbs). Including the rider, the maximum load capacity is 145 kg (320 lbs).

In addition to the standard colors Blue flash and Sparkling iron gray, HP Velotechnik now offers more than 400 custom color options for the Delta tx.

The Delta tx with Above Seat Steering with universal joint and Bafang M410 HD motor will be available from specialist dealers starting August 1st, 2026, with prices starting at € 7,638 ($9,709).

Under Seat Steering as option

Shortly before introducing the Above Seat Steering with universal joint, HP Velotechnik presented an Under Seat Steering (USS) as a new option for the Delta tx. With this design, the rider’s arms rest alongside the body. In addition to the relaxed riding posture, the rider also benefits from an unobstructed panoramic view, looking over the pedaling feet and freely across the surrounding landscape.

To accommodate riders of different sizes, HP Velotechnik has developed a unique adjustment feature for the Delta tx with Under Seat Steering. The adjustable seat mount and handlebar attachment are combined into a single unit. After releasing three blue quick-release clamps beneath the seat, the entire assembly can be easily moved along the trike’s trapezoidal frame. This ensures that both handlebar and seat always remain in the optimal distance and height relationship.
