Electrifying outlook for spring: Cruising on the Delta tx e-trike from HP Velotechnik is becoming even more relaxed with the new Under Seat Steering system

Kriftel. German recumbent specialist HP Velotechnik has unveiled a world-first innovation for its Delta tx e-trike at the CABDA West bicycle trade show in Las Vegas: The new Under Seat Steering (USS) with a sophisticated size-adjustment is designed to provide an even more relaxed and ergonomic riding experience. In Europe, the trike with the new steering system was presented two days later, on March 20, at the Cyclingworld trade show in Düsseldorf.

Recumbent trikes are known for comfort and stability, but HP Velotechnik’s latest design takes the concept further. Unlike traditional Above Seat Steering, the new system positions the handlebars alongside the rider’s body, allowing arms to remain relaxed while the hands naturally grip the handlebar ends. This position enables effortless control of steering, shifting, brakes, and motor functions. “The new Under Seat Steering allows riders to relax their arms completely while enjoying an unobstructed panoramic view,” said Daniel Pulvermüller, CEO of HP Velotechnik.

Innovative Integrated Adjustment System

To ensure the trike fits riders of different heights, HP Velotechnik developed a new integrated design combining the seat mount and Under Seat Steering assembly into a single component. When the seat is moved forward or backward along the Delta tx’s sliding rail to accommodate different riders, the steering position automatically moves with it. A specially designed quick-release clamp allows riders to easily adjust the position while maintaining the ideal ergonomic distance between seat and handlebars. The USS allows independent adjustment of handlebar width, tilt angle, and ergonomic positioning. Large quick-release levers allow riders with limited mobility to fold the right handlebar section away, making it easier to enter or exit the seat.

The Delta tx with Under Seat Steering will be available starting May 2026 through authorized dealers worldwide. The e-trike will be offered in Blue Flash or Sparkling Iron Gray.

HP Velotechnik, founded in 1993 by Paul Hollants and Daniel Pulvermüller, manufactures approx. 1,500 recumbents per year in the factory in Kriftel near Frankfurt with 50 employees (including six trainees) and is thus market leader in Europe. HP Velotechnik has developed 15 recumbent models that cover the entire range from everyday bikes to racing bikes. All models are available with powerful electric motors on request. Recently, the models from the Scorpion series caused a sensation, winning the renowned “Eurobike Award” design prize three times in a row. Most recently, in 2013 the trike Scorpion fs Enduro and in 2014 the Scorpion plus 20 as a therapy trike. The last time the Scorpion fs 26 S-Pedelec won this award at the world’s most important bicycle trade fair Eurobike was in 2018 as a vehicle in the fast class with pedal assistance up to 45 km/h.

Even as schoolchildren, the company founders Hollants and Pulvermüller became national winners of the JUTEC Youth and Technology competition of the Association of German Engineers – the foundation of the development from a garage laboratory to one of Germany’s most innovative bicycle companies. Since 2006 HP Velotechnik has been awarded as one of the three best bicycle manufacturers in Germany by the industry association VSF several times.
