Fancy an electric motor for your recumbent but don’t want to buy a new bike straight away? If so, we’ve got good news for you: it’s easy to convert your HP Velotechnik cycle into an e-bike (pedelec)!
With an e-bike conversion kit, you can turn almost any HP Velotechnik recumbent into a cycle with an electric drive. In a direct comparison, the conversion is cheaper than buying a new electric bike. And you’ve got a lot of options, nearly as many as when you’re picking out a new bike, since almost every motor system in our lineup is available as a conversion kit.

„Mid-Drive Engine“ Without Extra Frame
When it comes to Shimano STEPS series electric motors, our recumbents boast a natural advantage. With a recumbent that has a boom for the bottom bracket, there is no need for a frame specially designed for a „mid-drive engine“. A retrofit only requires the front bracket to be replaced with a version that has a motor mount. This is, of course, included in the conversion kit.
A conversion with STEPS retrofit kits is possible for almost all of our trikes except for the Delta tx and Scorpion fs 26 S-Pedelec. Since we do not offer our two-wheelers with STEPS electric drives, also retrofitting is not supported, accordingly.
As retrofitting is technically quite complex here, it is carried out exclusively at our factory. We’ve got a separate solution for conversion in the USA because of logistical reasons. If you’re in the US and want to know more, just get in touch with one of our partnering dealers.

Rear Hub Motor With Recuperation
We also offer the Neodrives Z20 rear-wheel motor as a retrofit kit. The electric hub drive features the special advantage of recuperation. This means you can actively recover energy when you’re going downhill, for example, which increases your range.
Neodrives’ super quiet rear drive can be added to almost all of our tricycles and bicycles. The only exceptions are the Delta tx and our S-Pedelecs, which come with the faster Z20RS as standard.
A retrofit the Neodrives Z20 system can also be carried out by your HP Velotechnik dealer if they are able to provide this service and wish to offer it. if they are able to provide this service and wish to offer it. Otherwise, as with the Shimano STEPS systems, the conversion will take place at our factory.

What Does Your Conversion Kit Include?
In addition to the respective electric motor, each retrofit kit includes the corresponding plug-in wiring harness, a display (Shimano) or a control unit (Neodrives), as well as a 4A charger and a battery holder. Batteries are considered hazardous goods, so you need to order them separately.
With our Shimano systems, you can choose between a version with a preselected gear shift including rear wheel or, alternatively, the basic drive without gearing and rear wheel. Your specialist dealer will gladly advise you on whether your current gear shift is compatible with a pedelec system.
With the Neodrives retrofit conversion kit, the hub motor is spoked into a wheel; a gear shift is not included in the set. Here too, your specialist dealer can advise you on the compatibility of your existing gear shift or possible alternatives.
