When developing the award-winning design of the Scorpion fs 20 foldable touring trike, HP Velotechnik’s engineers used the latest chassis technology from the automotive sector to provide the most comfortable full suspension for your ride. But they did not compromise by simply using retro-fit solutions on existing frames:
The whole vehicle was developed from scratch to incorporate an impressively sensitive full suspension in a sleek and lean design delivering superior performance. The wishbone axle geometry and HP Velotechnik’s unique Stabilizer System, with its anti-roll bar integrated into the frame design allow full use of the ample suspension travel. It is finely tuned to perfectly respond to the forces of the road. The low seat and far higher pedal position highlight the agile sporty character of the full suspension recumbent trike for adults.

Once you want to leave the beaten track, you need a quick responding suspension, stable road holding, precise steering, and an optimum of steadiness. Now, the full suspension recumbent trike Scorpion fs 20 is your perfect choice.
The comfortable MacPherson front suspension has 6 cm (2.4 inches) of travel and uses a reliable spring and elastomer system. The suspension struts are supported on the far end of the frame’s rigid, large-diameter crossbar close to the wheel. The adjustable wishbones are equipped with maintenance-free bearings.
With this design, our engineers were able to keep unsuspended masses at a minimum, achieving a rapidly responding front suspension action with an astonishingly low weight from 17,5 kg for the fully suspended recumbent touring trike Scorpion fs 20. The suspension preload is adjustable. By exchanging the steel springs and varying the parallelly positioned MCU-elastomer / spacer stack, you can adjust the suspension characteristics, stiffness, and progression to match your personal riding style and needs.
The full suspension recumbent trike’s most unique feature is the beefy wishbone and stabilizer bar system under the cruciform frame. This stops the trike from rolling in corners while preserving its suspension movement. Control at the extreme limits is noticeably improved and tipping safety significantly increased. The AntiDive kinematics prevent the negative dive effects on braking.
The design of the camber and track geometry ensures that the steering mechanism offers straight-line stability over the entire suspension travel and remains easily accessible and free from impairment when braking (brake steer) or traversing obstacles (bump steer). You can feel it immediately: in the precision of the steering, the sporty handling, and the direct feedback from the road.
The entire chassis is designed using our No Squat suspension design and transmits all of your drive energy to the road without any loss of power. In return, you enjoy complete comfort so that you can lean back and relax while dynamically accelerating, even on rocky roads.

For convenient transport, you can easily fold your Scorpion fs 20 within 60 seconds into a package of 112 × 83 × 63 cm length x height x width (44″ x 33″ x 25″, with installed rear rack). After the easy removal of the front fenders and front wheels, the package reduces to only 112 × 74 × 46 cm (44″ x 29″ x 18″); without the rear rack, the length is almost less than 90 cm (36″). For easy carrying around, your Scorpion fs 20 is fixated in its folded position by a frame-side-mounted adjustable snap-in device that safely secures the folded frame.

BodyLink-Seat
The HP Velotechnik seat systems provide an exemplary ergonomic connection at the key interface between the rider and the trike. With the adjustable BodyLinkhard shell seat, the lower seat shell offers excellent side support, while the upper seatback gives enough freedom for you to lean dynamically into the curve when cornering. Waterproof seat pad cushion made of EVA foam or breathable Airflow seat cushion (multi-layer system).
ErgoMesh-Seat
Alternatively, you can mount the airy ErgoMesh mesh seat. It has anatomically-shaped side cushioning for extra support when cornering and a practical zipper pocket in the backrest. Safety plus: Reflective strips on the seat sides. Both seat systems fit the same frame mounts and are thus interchangeable. They can also be removed entirely in 15 seconds a practical feature when it is raining, or you want to put your recumbent bicycle into your car. With the ErgoMesh seat, you get a 3 cm (1.2") higher seat than with the BodyLink seat; with the extra high ErgoMesh HS plus seat, you sit 14 cm (4.2") higher. A higher seating position facilitates boarding and disembarking and improves the overview in traffic, but reduces the tilt stability when cornering at higher speed – please test your desired seat/handlebar combination at your specialist dealer.
Rear Rack
Your luggage will be carried with full suspension. This enables agile driving dynamics and helps to protect your equipment. The stable rack for loads of up to 25 kg (55 lbs) has been optimized to withstand the high lateral forces while riding your trike. It comes with a secondary, lowered level to hang your panniers with a low center of gravity. Low sidebars provide secure support for bags. Well integrated: A protection for your taillight and a flag mount.
Fenders / Mudguards
Functional fenders: The HP Velotechnik trike fenders offer excellent rider protection against spray from the rear and in particular, from the side. HP Velotechnik enlarged the inside facing part to improve the spray protection to the driver, especially when cornering. Elegant mounting hardware located on the inside of the fender with height adjustment. The rounded shape of the fenders with 60 mm / 2.36" width allows the installation of large-volume, comfortable tires up to 50 mm / 2" width.
Parking Brake
As a parking brake, we can install a V-brake on the rear wheel. It is operated by a thumb lever at the handlebar.
Trailer coupling
Excellent for transporting children or transport on long trips: Your Scorpion fs 20 can tow a multi-track trailer weighing up to 40 kg (88 lbs). The trailer hitch developed for the Scorpion by Weber and HP Velotechnik has a rigid connection plate that lowers the coupling point by 5 cm (2"). This enables the luggage rack to benefit from full suspension without touching the trailer tow bar.
front boom quickadjust
The optional quick frame adjustment with quick-release levers can be used to adapt the bike to different leg lengths quickly. By pushing in the boom tube, you can also make your Scorpion fs 20 even more compact for transport.
Weather Protection Gear
The Streamer front fairing from HP Velotechnik keeps your feet warm and legs dry. The fairing can be easily removed using the quick-release lever and rolled up for transport.
Electric Power-Assist
Do you offer electric drive assistance? Certainly, we do – this is another domain of our trikes! HP Velotechnik can optionally equip all vehicles with a powerful electric motor. More and more people discover the easy way of riding an HP Velotechnik trike while sitting laid back in absolute comfort. No other type of bicycle fits electric motors as perfectly as recumbent trikes. Why is obvious: The ease of pedaling and the ergonomic sitting position make the ride even more pleasant. The built-in aerodynamic advantage of your recumbent trike can also be exploited electrically: less drag means more range. The e-assist system integrates elegantly into the trike's design. That does not only take effect for the e-trike version with hub motor in the rear wheel or the version with bottom bracket motor upfront. The characteristics of our trikes depend on many factors. The wheel size is only one. HP Velotechnik optimized the geometry of each model for specific characteristics (with or without full suspension, foldable or not foldable, small rear wheel or large rear wheel, etc.). A conversion in this area would harm the overall balanced system and thus on the driving characteristics – therefore our trikes are not intended for such a conversion.
In our concept, the specialist trade is the central sales pillar. Our selected and trained specialist dealers can advise you in detail. Above all, however, they offer a promptly available service locally, which we cannot provide within the framework of our manufactory with some production processes planned for the long term. For these reasons we also do not sell directly to the customer at the factory.
A lot works with a lot – but not everything is compatible with everything. This is obvious with some combinations: a hub gear plus a hub motor in the same rear wheel is not possible. The easiest way to choose your specifications: Enter your whishes in our online configurator – we’ve programmed it with all possible combinations, compatibility, and descriptions on our component choices. For detailed advice on choosing the best option for your desired application, please contact your specialist dealer.
System weight means the weight of rider + luggage + bike (if applicable incl. motor). The payload refers to driver + luggage. In practical terms, this means that if you chose a motor for your Scorpion fs 20, you have to subtract its weight from the possible payload.
The Scorpion fs 20 is designed as a sporty and thus low trike. In addition, the suspension decreases ground clearance. For this reason, a special recumbent bike bag (banana shape) can be used as an option for large quantities of luggage for space reasons and not an additional lowrider.
