GrassHopper enjoys smooth tarmac roads as well as off road trails or from time to time a stop at a nice outdoor cafe. The adjustable suspension at both wheels makes you relax even on bad roads since the famous No squat design by HP Velotechnik works without any influence from pedalling forces.
For the front wheel you can choose between 3 different suspension forks, at the back wheel a hydraulically dampened spring element spares the intervertebral discs and makes the bike easy to handle.
You steer the GrassHopper either with a foldable above seat steering or an indirect under seat steering. The well-balanced steering geometry allows even an untrained cyclist to quickly adapt to the GrassHopper and enjoy a swift ride. Handling is easy also in narrow streets because of the compact design with the robust aluminum frame and the smoothly running 20" wheels.
At 170 cm (67") length and 100 cm height the GrassHopper is not longer but flatter than a conventional trekking bike. This comes in handy when you want to take along your GrassHopper with your car or carry it upstairs.
For safe braking the bike comes with rim brakes (Avid V-brake/Magura HS33) or disc brakes (Avid/Magura Louise). The gears shift with Srams DualDrive or Shimano derailleur gear. On demand, HP Velotechnik mounts the 14-speed hub gear by Rohloff. Nifty accessories include for example the smoothly running SON hub generator.

Comfortable seat options: The GrassHopper can be equipped with the comfortable BodyLink seat. It fits your body like a glove. Seat base angle, seat back angle and length are fully adjustable. Optional headrest and airflow seat cushion for optimum ventilation are available.

Alternatively, you can mount our breathable ErgoMesh seat. It comes with an ergonomic side cushioning and a practical seat pocket integrated into the back rest of the seat. For extra safety is is equipped with reflective stripes on its sides. Both seats fit onto the same frame mounts and can be removed from the bike within 15 seconds by qick release mounts - this comes extra handy when parking the bike in the rain or for transport in your car.

The cockpit: comfortable ergobars for the under seat steering. Your hands, wrists and neck can relax. Length and angle are adjustable. As the position of the handlebars is far back under the seat, even shorter riders can place their feet securely on the ground. The indirect linked steering gives a small turning circle. Maintenance free bearings with self-lubricating pivots.

Above seat steering with the foldable Terracycle Glideflex stem for great aerodynamics. Brake levers and shifters are always at hand.

HP Velotechnik uses comfortable recumbent suspension forks. Even the standard Spinner Grind2 allows to mount disc brakes. They guarantee incredible braking performance when going downhill.

The optional electrical power assist system BionX PL250 supports you with additional power when riding under 25 km/h. The rear wheel hub motor weighs only 3,5 kg. The system features 4 levels of power assistance, leading to 30-80 km of assisted cycling. When riding downhill, the energy from braking can be used to recharge the lightweight Li-Ion-battery. Integrated alarm system. The BionX system can be used in Germany without driving license.
