Photo album - BreakOut! 2001 Drag Race
On Saturday and Sunday HP Velotechnik and the German HPV club organized a Dragrace open for the general public. Dragrace meant in Friedrichshafen a 50 m sprint race.
HP Velotechnik contributed four Waveys for the race. Because of its easy seat adjustment and above steering the Wavey is particularly suitable for recumbent beginners, as we could see during the race: for many contestants it was the first time on a recumbent, yet all of them crossed the finishing line.
 |
The Drag Race track for the Waveys was established on the asphalt track next to the MTB test track. The contestants slowly rode to the starting line where they waited for the starting signal of race leader Andreas Pooch. Together with his assistants he timed at the end of the track. . |
 |
Paul Hollants from HP Velotechnik commented the race. Ok, he didn't quite stick to the rules but his unconventional way was helpful: recumbent beginners received a little help setting off. |

Presentation ceremony on Saturday. On the left the fastest woman: Julia Wölfe from Aulendorf. Julia made the 50 meters in 9,2 seconds. The fastest man was Dieter Stopper from Meckenbeuren, represented here by his wife Silke. He was 8,2 seconds on the way. The winners received a "Flying through the Moon" recumbent t-shirt from HP Velotechnik and a Recumbent Test Weekend at a dealer of their choice.

Presentation ceremony on Sunday. MC Paul Hollants proudly presented Igor "The Eagle" Obo. Normally, Igor jumps down ski jumps on a BMX bicyle with 120 km/h - in 1998 he established the world record of 45 m in long-flying with bicycles. During the race he was a just little bit slower: for a period of 35 seconds Igor kept his balance on the Wavey. Unfortunately, he set his foot on the ground just before passing the finishing line. For that reason he got the consolation prize for the slowest contestant: a "Flying through the moon" T-shirt.
In the back row on the left race leader Andreas "Give blood, ride recumbents" Pooch from Liegeraddatei. The fastest woman on Sunday was Silvia, the fastest man Dieter (in the middle, next to Silvia).
Far right side Daniel Pulvermüller, race coordinator from HP Velotechnik.

After the race this masked person hijacked the microphone, escaped very quickly and for the rest of the day he was heard communicating to the riders on the MTB test track. |
