HP Velotechnik Scorpion plus 20 with GO SwissDrive

Which E-Drive fits best?
Comparing GO SwissDrive and Shimano STEPS.

Automatic or closely packed gears – some people know at once, which to choose: Whoever can operate a shifting system with multiple chainrings, and for training reasons, prefers to vary their cadence, may be happiest with the sporty GO SwissDrive. On the other hand, if one always wished not to have to shift gears, then the Shimano STEPS would be the perfect match. But what happens if neither of these examples fit perfectly to your situation? Then take a closer look at how you are planning to use your recumbent cycle.

Are you often in the city? As a commuter, shopping, or just to be mobile? City traffic means constant stop-and-go. Shimano’s automatic transmission is not only a comfort benefit, but brings safety, as well: You can fully concentrate on the traffic. The purring of the motor is barely recognizable over the noise of the cars while riding.

Scorpion trike with e-drive Shimano STEPS

Are you riding in challenging and hilly terrain? Then the overheating protection level of the STEPS is a real advantage. With automatic gears, the transmission always runs in the most efficient range allowing long climbs with heavy loads to be completed without stopping. Relaxed touring is now standard with this system.

Away from the more travelled roads, shifting needs to be done less frequent as you travel on a steadier tempo. If you wish to hear the nature as you ride, rather than listening to the humming of your motor, then the silent GO SwissDrive plays out its advantages of the rear drive motor hub. And only this system comes with an electric reverse gear!

If long distance is one of your priorities, then the GO SwissDrive system allows you to mount a second battery to further drastically increase your range. Tourers might also feel more comfortable having standard XT drivetrain components on their Scorpion since even the smallest bike shops would have replacement parts.
